Sheriff's deputies joined volunteers from USF’s McCarthy Center, Guardsmen, and multiple city agencies to deliver over 200 Christmas trees to families in need across San Francisco during December. “You can’t help but smile when you see a holiday tree,” said Sheriff Miyamoto. “We get to share joy and happiness with hundreds of families who gave us big smiles when they saw their trees.”

Sheriff Miyamoto, Assistant Sheriff Engler and SFSO staff turned out to a “Be Chinatown” holiday event in December 2020. Organizers delivered gifts to 600 children living in residential hotels to make sure that no child was forgotten this holiday season. Be Chinatown includes community members and merchants focused on bringing community back to Chinatown in the wake of the pandemic.

Sheriff Paul Miyamoto paid tribute to Deputy Linton Martin, Sr., who collapsed and died in the line of duty in early December. Dep. Martin was a native San Franciscan who joined the SFSO in 2001 after serving in the US Navy. A procession of Sheriff’s vehicles followed the casket to County Jail #3 in San Bruno where Dep. Martin worked. He received a final salute from his colleagues. May Dep. Martin Rest in Peace.

SFSO honed their search, rescue & identification skills in November 2020 during a role-playing scenario with the US Air Force 571st Mobile Support Advisory Squadron. This year’s practice was more challenging as SFSO sought to recover masked-up USAF members over a five-hour period across San Francisco. USAF Lt. Col. & 571st Commander Justin Keating recognized Sheriff Miyamoto and staff members for their participation & support of this critical joint training exercise.

We honor SFSO deputies and fellow first responders on National First Responders Day, October 28. Our first responders are ready to put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe. We thank and are proud of the amazing people who readily answer the call.

The San Francisco Sheriff's Office helped out at the Guardsmen pumpkin patch fund raiser, raising money to support high-quality educational and outdoor activities for inner-city youth.
