Department 150th Anniversary
Press Release 150th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony San Francisco Sheriff Michael Hennessey will join with City and State officials and the over 800 sworn and civilian members of the Department to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Sheriff's Department at a commemorative civic ceremony Friday, October 27th, 2000, 11:00 a.m. on the steps of City Hall and Civic Center Plaza, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place. The ceremony will include presentations by the Honor Guard, the Sheriff's Mounted Posse, over 100 Department personnel in representative uniform, a display of vehicles, and highlights of the proud and often colorful history of the Sheriff's Department. A commemorative program will be distributed. California Assembly Minority Leader Kevin Shelley is the keynote speaker and remarks will be made by Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr., Supervisor Tom Ammiano and Sr. Deputy David Hardy, President of the Deputy Sheriff's Association, as well as Sheriff Hennessey. Now in its 150th year, the San Francisco Sheriff's Department is a multi-disciplined entity, which has greatly expanded in the past seven years. "We are proud of our long and distinguished service to the community, and of the diverse and talented staff found at every level of our organization," Sheriff Hennessey said. "We invite the community to join with us in celebrating the 150 year history of theDepartment, as well as accomplishments of today and visions for the future.
