I. Update on MIO Project
· To date, 113 clients have been recruited.
· The committee requested the client recruitment criteria be re-visited and discussed. A working group consisting of the Public Defender, District Attorney and Forensic Support System (FSS) is tentatively scheduled for October 4, 2000.
II. New MIO Planning Grant
The Fiscal Year 2000/2001 State Budget Act allocated an additional $50 million to the Mentally Ill Offender Crime Reduction Grant (MIOCR) Program. Of this amount, the Board of Corrections may award up to 2 million for the development of a local plan.
San Francisco Sheriff's Department applied for and received $62,100 in Planning Grant money. We will use the Planning Grant money to:
· Update the local plan to include new information, resources, and issues;
· Determine the next priority for funding request for the new MIOCR grant funds;
· Identify the feasibility of developing a mental health court in San Francisco, including site visits to model programs in California; and
· Prepare a proposal for additional MIOCR grant funds which is due March 1, 2001.
Consultants Tanya Aly and Naheed Bashir will work with us to update San Francisco's local plan.
III. New MIO Demonstration Grant Funds
· The Demonstration Grant RFP will be available September 22, 2000. For more information, you may visit the Board of Corrections website at www.bdcorr.ca.gov.
· Two work groups were selected. Eight people volunteered to identify the feasibility of developing mental health courts in San Francisco and six to help update the local plan.
IV. Public Comment
