Mentally Ill Offender Crime Reduction Grant (MIO)

In 1999, the State Board of Corrections (BOC) awarded the Sheriff's Department $5,000,000 for a Mentally Ill Offender Crime Reduction Demonstration Grant. In 2001, the BOC awarded the Sheriff's Department an additional $3,488,400 to fund a separate program. The funds are to be used in accordance with the provisions of Senate Bill 1485 for development of programs designed to reduce jail crowding, crime and criminal justice costs while addressing the needs of mentally ill offenders during incarceration and upon release.
