One of the greatest jazz drummers
of all time, Gene Krupa was arrested at the Golden Gate Theater
on January l9, l943, due to an allegation that he had used a 20
year old "roadie" to transport a small amount of marijuana.
Krupa was arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency
of a minor, a misdemeanor.
Krupa’s attorney, Jake Ehrlich,
pled Krupa to the misdemeanor with a recommendation from the D.A.
that a $500 fine be administered. To everyone’s surprise, the
judge ordered the $500 fine and 90 days in the county jail.
Krupa did the time.
