The Sheriff's Department provides security for the Criminal and Civil Courts in San Francisco. Approximately 70 sworn officers and supervisors are assigned to the Courts Division. Their responsibilities include escorting defendants to court, acting as bailiffs, providing building security, transporting psychiatric patients to and from medical facilities, and responding to emergency calls for assistance from the courts.

The Criminal Courts are located in the Hall of Justice, 850 Bryant Street, the Civil Courts at 400 McAllister Street, and the Youth Guidance Center at 375 Woodside Avenue.
